When assessing a product, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel considers the entire life cycle of the product, including raw materials, production, use, disposal, and recycling. The assessment of products always takes into account what is most beneficial for people, the environment, and Earth's resources.

We are all exposed to chemical substances from things we surround ourselves with, which affect our health and the environment. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel sets strict requirements for chemicals, which benefits your health, the people who produce the products, and the environment.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel regularly tightens its requirements for environmental impact and chemical content, thus contributing to driving sustainable development forward.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel does not allow chemicals and substances such as: 

- MI or other sensitizing preservatives
- Parabens or other ingredients on the EU's list of suspected endocrine disruptors
- Microplastic

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel ensures that:

- Products for babies and young children are without fragrance, including so-called natural fragrances.
- Products for adults are either fragrance-free or comply with strict requirements for fragrance.
- Products meet strict requirements for the amount and type of packaging.

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the official environmental label in the Nordic region, based on the latest research and knowledge - a holistic label with a focus on health and the environment. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel has strict environmental requirements in all relevant phases of the product's life cycle and sets strict requirements for chemicals - all for the benefit of both the environment and your health. 

Microplastics are plastic particles that are less than 5 millimeters in diameter. These small plastic pieces can be formed when plastic is worn or broken down, but they can also be intentionally produced and used. Although microplastics are suspected of polluting our health and the environment, it is allowed to add these small plastic particles to beauty products, for example, as scrubbing beads in a scrub.

At ZENZ, we do not use microplastics in our products, and we adhere to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel's strict requirements on how to avoid microplastics from our ingredient lists.

Knowledge about microplastics is important because we take product safety and environmental protection very seriously, and we want our products to be free of microplastics. Identification of new types of microplastics is an ongoing process. We continuously integrate new knowledge into our products as it becomes available and feasible.
